A quick presentation of the Scan 68 - a range of elliptical shaped, wood burning stoves

The Danish design origins of the Scan 68 range of wood burning stoves are emphasised by the perfect proportions, straight lines and combination of steel, glass and black or aluminium trim. The design pays respect to both the aesthetic and functional roles of the wood burner in your home.

The raised firebox gives you a fantastic view of the flames from all angles. The integrated handle and trim smoothly follow the contours of the design.

Soapstone wood burner with natural heat storage

The designers have fashioned the beautiful, heat-retaining soapstone in an elegant way that retains the slim and attractive proportions of the stove. Scan 68-15 also features extra ornate air control vents.

When you heat your soapstone stove up properly with a good fire, the soapstone will store the heat. When the stone feels hot to the touch, you can let the fire go out and the soapstone will continue to release heat for hours.

effortlessly. The handles are made of brushed aluminium which provides a good grip and the tip-out feature is especially practical on the closed base.

Although the handle is close to the flames it remains cool to the touch. This means that it maintains a temperature of less than 35 degrees Celsius above the temperature of the room and, during normal stove usage, the temperature does not exceed 50 degrees.

Ash collection system

The inside of the stove where you build the fire is called the firebox. The Scan 68 range has a firebox crafted from robust, durable cast iron that has been developed specially to achieve optimum combustion performance.

The base of the firebox is no less than 6 cm deep and has a lip inside that is shaped to fit the curve of the door and keeps ashes and embers inside the firebox.

An ash pan is concealed behind the stove door, below the burn chamber, and is shaped to fit the curved front of the door. The pan pulls out smoothly and its practical handle allows you to easily carry it and empty out the ashes.

Double glazed side windows

Several of the products in the range have side windows. They are doubled glazed, which helps keep the glass clear of soot. It also reduces the distance between the glass sides and a combustible wall.

Air vents

The air regulation controls sit stylishly on the side of the stove. Clear symbols for primary air (airflow to get the fire going) and secondary air (airflow to keep it burning evenly) are discreetly embossed on the side panel.

The intuitive icon for the primary air control is a matchstick. This control regulates the air that passes through the kindling tower when you are lighting the fire. The icon for the secondary air control is a flame. This controls the flames and the temperature and regulates the air that flows down over the front glass window. This is the control you adjust to stop the glass of your stove from sooting up.

Wood burning stove in energy-efficient houses or passive houses

Wood burning stoves and fireplaces with closed combustion are a good choice if you live in an energy-efficient house or a newly-built house, or if you have negative pressure in your home.

In older houses, air is drawn through the stove. However, if a house is exceptionally airtight or mechanical ventilation is working against the natural flow of air in the chimney, this may lead to problems with the performance of the fireplace.

The recommended solution is to connect an external air supply to the wood burner. The Scan 68 features a concealed external air supply at the rear, with connection through the bottom or base.
